DESCRIPTION:The winter concert celebrates the fusion of traditional choral writing\, rich jazz harmonies\, and improvisation. Composer Will Todd's Mass in Blue will be performed with a jazz band featuring piano\, bass\, saxophone\, and drums\, and with internationally renowned operatic jazz soprano soloist Katherine Whyte. The program will also include the seasonal traditions for which NCS is known: the Youth Choir of Immaculate Conception Church\, NCS's own small chamber ensemble\, a hushed song by candlelight\, and audience sing-alongs of familiar carols. Duke Ellington's arrangement of Caravan and a jazz arrangement of O Christmas Tree\, and memorable selections such as Harold Arlen's Over the Rainbow and Leonard Bernstein's Make Our Garden Grow complete the program.
