Event Description:
Newburyport is famous for its rich maritime history, Federal era mansions, boutique shops, and fine restaurants.  It’s a prime destination for crowds of tourists who flock to our riverside community to enjoy magnificent views and soak in Newburyport’s culture.

Of course, Newburyport has other not-so-obvious visitors during the year.  An ever-changing array of migrating animals pass through and, combined with our resident wild plants and animals, make our area a unique biodiversity hotspot.  The staff of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center will reveal the secrets of Newburyport’s incredible wildlife as each season brings its own opportunities and challenges.

Did you know that during the winter many bird species consider Newburyport south? Have you ever wondered why swallows swarm Plum Island in early fall? And why is some of the sand at Sandy Point dark purple, and what makes it so hard to brush off?
