ROMANY DANCE
Celebrating around the fire with women in brightly colored skirts and wild, flowing veils? You can’t keep from smiling as you dance to the aerobic 9/8 rhythms of Gypsy style and traditional Middle Eastern music. In this class you’ll get great exercise, learn a set of classic steps (and a few invented by the instructor), and tips on assembling a costume. No prior dance experience necessary. Only requirement in this class is to have fun. Learn at your own pace, disabilities no problem – we will work around them. Janet Catherine Johnston (Leodunya) has performed in the US and abroad and is known for her seminars on Gothic Gypsy dancing and won awards for her flamboyant costumes. She has studied and observed Gypsy/Middle Eastern Dancing on visits to Hungary, Spain, Romania and Egypt. We’ll explore the elements of stage presence.
Four, 1.5 hour classes: Mondays, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Runs April 24, May 1, 15, and 22, 2023.
No class May 8.
Newburyport High School Dance Studio*.
Cost: $155. Class limit 12.

- You’ll enter the school driveway off Toppans Lane
- and then turn right into the parking area.

- Please allow time for parking so class can begin on time.
