The Walsingham Gallery will present Realism, an exhibition of exquisitely rendered paintings, from two New England natives, Robert Bolster and Larry Preston. The Artists’ Receptions will be held Saturday, July 19th from 6-8 pm, and the exhibition will continue through August 31st.
Robert Bolster's masterfully executed oils of New England's shore life are deceptively straightforward in their flawless technical detail and artistically dynamic composition. Many of his recent works have an astounding complex quality to them. These paintings are built upon a subtle grid, which Bolster views each as a single canvas and paints them meticuously.
Larry Preston paints simple, everyday objects that he finds beautiful and are often overlooked. Larry has developed a technique, sketching his subject first in charcoal and turpentine then applying many semi-transparent oil glazes over the original sketch. The resulting work has great depth and a luminous quality.
