On May 1, at 7 pm, a team of local teenage poets will perform their poetry at the Emma Andrews Library and Community Center. The public is invited to attend, and the local team’s performance will be followed by an audience question and answer (Q & A) session.
The poetry team, called “The Spittin’ Cygnets,” are part of the Newburyport High School (NHS) Creative Writing at Night class, led by Newburyport High School English and creative writing teacher Deborah Szabo. The six-member team is gearing up to compete with other teen poetry teams in the 2023 Massachusetts Poetry Festival.
Before the team heads off to compete in the Massachusetts Poetry Festival Teen Poetry Slam, they are excited to perform their poetry for their home-town and local audience.
