Event Description:
In 2018, The Actors Studio of Newburyport hosted four story slams, all at the Studio’s black box theatre. This evening's "Super Story Slam" is the year’s finale in which we invite all of our 2018 Full Moon Story Slam winners to tell us one more tale - this time a longer story focused around the theme: Epiphanies.

The Super Story Slam also features a celebrity storyteller. This year’s celebrity is the North Shore’s Anna Smulowitz. Anna has produced, directed and acted in over a thousand plays. She has earned a BA and MA in Theatre Arts and taught acting at the University of Maryland. In 1980, she earned an M.Ed. from Lesley University in Drama as Therapy. In 1986 she earned a third Masters from Brandeis in Jewish Studies. She established the Newburyport Children's Theatre in 1979, which today is known as Theatre in the Open. She went on to form her own adult production company and theatre training school. Hundreds of students have studied with Anna. Many have performed in film, television and on Broadway. Others have become theatre educators, directors, and playwrights. She considers her greatest achievement to be her original play, Terezin Children of the Holocaust, which has toured the US and Europe for over 28 years. Terezin won the 1984 American Children's' Television award.  Anna also won the 1997 Mayor's Arts Award and the 2008 Anti-Defamation League Leadership Award. In 1994, Timberland Corp named Anna a “Model Person” in a national ad campaign entitled "Timberland Gives Racism the Boot". At age 55, Anna decided to follow a path toward hospital & hospice ministry.  In 2005 she was ordained an Interfaith Minister and is now an interfaith chaplain at Brooksby Village in Peabody.
