Winners of the first annual Beach

Birds Youth Art contest will be

announced at 3 pm!

Endangered Species Day Celebration

Saturday, May 19th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m

Celebrate Endangered Species Day with Parker River National Wildlife Refuge! Join us for

fun crafts and games that teach about endangered species which live in our area. Planned

activities include: build your own plover, Monarch gardening, beach sand discovery, and

much more.

Specific Activities from 1-3pm include:

Make you own piping plover -- Make your own piping plovers adults and chicks to take home (or

add to our exhibit)!

Blandings Turtle Live! -- Students from River Valley Charters School will bring blandings turtles

that they have been head-starting in their classroom, and teach us all about these special turtles

that live right in our own back yard.

Beach Sand Discovery Kit -- Come take a closer look at our beach sand, and discover what

makes each beach unique! You will never look at sand the same way again!

Tigers, Elephants, Crocodiles, Oh My! -- Did you know that US Fish and Wildlife Service protects

tigers, elephants, and all wildlife living in other countries? Come look at some items confiscated

by USFWS's Wildlife Inspectors and learn about the International laws that protect our most

iconic wildlife.

Mad about Monarchs (2 Activities)

oThe Monarch Lady, Katie Banks will show kids how to make seed balls and plant milkweed

and nectar plants to take home and create Monarch habitat in their neighborhood.

oMake a Monarch exhibit -- color in your own monarchs and add it to our migrating Monarch

butterfly exhibit

Timed Activities:

Whales of Gulf of Maine: Join Refuge Volunteer Emmalee Tarry to learn all

about whales of the Gulf of Maine, with special emphasis on Right Whales. Models

whales will be available after the presentation for demonstration. Two sessions

are offered, both suitable for all ages.

1:00: Targeted to adults

2:00: Targeted to young children

Beach Art Contest Presentation: All Beach Art Contest submissions will be on

display for viewing. At 3pm, we will announce the winners of the Beach Art

Contest, and present awards.
